The Marshall Islands DAO LLC framework, enacted in 2022, was the first national-level law in the world to comprehensively recognise DAOs as legal entities. The RMI DAO LLC is not subject to US tax, may be managed entirely by smart contracts, and permits anonymous membership.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands hosts a dedicated DAO-registration portal. Filing is online; approval typically completes within 2–3 weeks. Year-1 cost with ArxSetup is USD 12,000.
Limitations
Banking access for RMI DAO LLCs is limited to crypto-friendly institutions. Reputation among institutional counterparties varies. The DAO must satisfy a "Sponsorship Letter" requirement at incorporation.
