CIS — Collective Investment Scheme
Any scheme where investor money is pooled and managed collectively under a defined investment strategy. Includes mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity, real estate funds and REITs.
In practice
UAE CIS regulation sits with DFSA (for DIFC funds) and FSRA (for ADGM funds). Most institutional CIS structures we encounter are Cayman Exempted Limited Partnerships or ADGM Investment Vehicles, with UAE-domiciled investment manager subsidiaries.
